The United States has updated the list of sanctioned individuals from Iran.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which is affiliated with the US Department of the Treasury, has added several Iranian entities and Emirati and Singaporean nationals to its sanctions list.
Behnam Shahriari is among these individuals, and a company registered in Singapore and the UAE has also been sanctioned.
The US Department of the Treasury stated that the inclusion of these individuals in the sanctions list is based on the country’s counter-terrorism sanctions regulations.
Bank accounts and potential assets of the sanctioned individuals and nationals will be seized within the US, and US citizens will not be allowed to engage in financial transactions with them.
The United States considers the Islamic Republic of Iran a supporter of terrorism and has also revoked the political immunities of the Iranian government within US territory.
Simultaneously with the update of this list, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the recent agreement with Iran regarding the exchange of prisoners does not signify a change in the US approach towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.
