Amnesty International accuses the British Prime Minister of attempting to downplay Israel’s human rights violations

Amnesty International has accused the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and Lisa Nandy, a senior representative of the opposition party in the country’s parliament, of trying to downplay the severity of Israel’s human rights violations in the Gaza Strip.

The Director of Amnesty International’s Regional Office in Britain stated in a statement that British politicians have been trying to downplay Israel’s blatant violations of international laws by not explicitly addressing Israel’s imposition of restrictions on water and food in Gaza, which is a form of collective punishment and war crime, as well as ignoring Israel’s request to evacuate northern Gaza, which would result in forced displacement of the residents. They have been attempting to mitigate the severity of Israel’s actions in violating human rights.

Rishi Sunak and Lisa Nandy, the Minister for International Development in the cabinet and prominent figures of the opposition in the country’s parliament, have faced significant negative reactions due to their refusal to condemn Israel’s complete blockade of the Gaza Strip during their interviews.
