Kenyan police have unearthed human bodies from over 12 suspicious graves in the eastern part of the country, as part of an investigation into the followers of a Christian cult who believed they would go to heaven if they died of hunger.

Detective Charles Kamau said that police began exhuming the bodies on Friday in the town of Malindi near the Shakahola forest in Kilifi County, according to images shared by Citizen TV. Last week, the police saved 15 members of the Good News International Church.

Unidentified police sources told French news agency on Saturday that 21 bodies have been found so far, and more bodies could still be discovered.
