Aliabad herd from the airplane cemetery in Mehrabad

Abbas Aliabadi, the Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade, asked the knowledge-based companies to help this ministry solve the problem of grounded airplanes in Mehrabad Airport’s airplane cemetery. According to Aliabadi, these airplanes either have technical defects, lack engines, or cannot import parts due to sanctions.

However, he did not mention how these companies can solve this problem considering Iran’s economic situation and sanctions.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in aviation accidents in Iran, both in passenger and military aircraft. Many experts attribute the aging of the country’s aviation industry and the inability to modernize the air transportation fleet as the main causes of these incidents.

Due to the sanctions imposed over the past four decades, Iran cannot purchase passenger airplanes and their equipment from international markets, and the country’s air fleet is severely worn out.
