Probability of Ukraine’s withdrawal from the city of Bakhmut

After months of bloody war over the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk province and the intensification of Russian and allied attacks, the likelihood of Ukrainian forces withdrawing from this city has increased.

Alexander Rodniansky, economic advisor to the President of Ukraine, told the Sianan TV broadcaster on the first of March that the country’s army is considering all options regarding the city of Bakhmut.

He emphasized that Ukrainian forces have fought with all their might to defend Bakhmut so far, but if necessary, they will strategically retreat.

Advisor to Volodymyr Zelensky added that Kyiv does not intend to sacrifice all its forces for a battle that yields no results.

Russia is also using mercenaries from the Wagner paramilitary group to besiege and capture Bakhmut. This group claimed about two weeks ago that they have taken control of areas near Bakhmut.
