Crisis emerges in the field of women’s Wushu in Iran
Following the ongoing pressures on women’s sports in Iran regarding the issue of mandatory hijab, it is reported that in the city of Shiraz, the championship competition for young girls in Wushu has been postponed after the controversy surrounding the girls’ marathon race.
Majid Maleki, the secretary of the national Wushu federation, stated on Saturday, 23rd of Ordibehesht, that the championship competition for young girls was supposed to have the girls enter a training camp after the selection on 10th of Khordad and prepare for the Asian Championships in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, due to unknown reasons, the event was canceled, causing us significant problems.
Mr. Maleki mentioned that the officials wrote that it is not appropriate to hold these competitions here due to problems in the province, but the reason behind it is not very clear. However, the fact that they did not allow these competitions to take place has seriously damaged our plans. Now, we have to choose another host and organize the championship competition for young girls as quickly as possible because we don’t have much time and we have to do this task very quickly.
