Niloufar Hamedi awarded the Hessen State Journalists’ Freedom of the Press Prize

The third day of May is World Press Freedom Day, and the German Journalists’ Association (DJV) annually awards journalists on this day who have been unjustly imprisoned or persecuted.

The Hessen branch of this association deemed Niloufar Hamedi, a journalist and photographer, deserving of the Freedom of the Press Prize in 2023 for her coverage of the fate and death of Mahsa Amini.

Niloufar Hamedi was arrested on Thursday, 30th of Shahrivar, after publishing a photo and report about Mahsa Amini and her family at Kasra Hospital in Tehran. The Ministry of Intelligence and the Intelligence Organization of the Revolutionary Guards have accused Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi, trained agents of foreign services, of inciting public opinion and promoting anti-government sentiments.

Elaheh Mohammadi, a colleague at Hammihan newspaper, had prepared a report on the burial of Mahsa Amini in Saqqez.
