The 18-year prison sentence of Fatemeh Sepehri has been confirmed.
The appellate court in Mashhad has confirmed the 18-year prison sentence of Fatemeh Sepehri, a political activist opposing the Islamic Republic government in Iran.
Asghar Sepehri, the brother of this political activist, stated in a tweet that according to Ms. Sepehri’s lawyer, the first branch of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad did not accept the appointment of a defense attorney on her behalf. Due to her failure to object to the preliminary verdict issued about a month ago, this sentence has become final as of March 11, 2023, and the harshest punishment is now enforceable.
Ms. Sepehri is among the political activists in Iran who openly criticize Ayatollah Khamenei. Along with several other government critics in 2019, she wrote open letters to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stating that he is the main problem in Iran and asking him to step down.
