We are approaching the new year with Ali Salajqeh, the head of the Environmental Protection Organization, stating that the preservation of the Helmand River is among the main priorities of the organization in the coming year.
Ali Salajqeh, the head of the Environmental Protection Organization of Iran, has stated that the preservation of the Helmand River is one of the main goals of the organization in the new year.
Iran and Afghanistan have disagreements over the Helmand River.
The two countries signed treaties in 1972 regarding the use of Helmand River water, which specify the annual amount of water that enters Iran from the river. However, Iran is not satisfied with the amount of water it receives and considers it inadequate.
Mr. Salajqeh has stated to ISNA news agency that even if Afghanistan announces tomorrow that we should go there for a meeting, we will definitely take action.
