The Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department has always disregarded the freedom of American citizens in Iran.

Wendy Sherman, the Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, emphasized in a claim regarding the issue of prisoner exchange with Iran that, from Washington’s perspective, diplomacy is the best way to address the Iranian nuclear issue.

We have repeatedly asked Russia and Iran to release American citizens who have been illegally imprisoned, but Moscow and Tehran have ignored these requests.

Referring to recent US sanctions against Iran and Russia in this regard, she said that the US will continue its relentless efforts to ensure the freedom of American citizens who have been taken hostage or unlawfully imprisoned, and will return them to their families.

Sherman’s statements come as Iranian officials have stated that the issue of exchanging American prisoners is a separate matter from other issues between the two countries, and they are ready to negotiate and finalize an agreement in this regard.
