US representatives condemn poisoning of girls in Iran

A bipartisan group of members of Congress in the United States has condemned the Iranian government for recent poisonings of female students in Iran.

According to the Associated Press, Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democratic representative from Texas, announced the formation of a congressional faction called ‘Women of Iran’ with the support of nearly 20 Republican and Democratic representatives.

This faction aims to draft resolutions and potential legislation focusing on women’s rights in Iran.

Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed resolutions with a large majority that expressed solidarity with Iranian protesters.

Despite more than four months passing since the start of suspicious poisonings mainly targeting girls’ schools in Iran, reports of these incidents continue to emerge from across the country this week.

On Wednesday, images and videos from Iran showed students in various schools in the cities of Kermanshah, Ardabil, Karaj, Urmia, Saghez, and Islamshahr being affected by poisoning.
