Two members of parliament react to the sentence of two journalists: If they have published the correct news, they should not be punished.
According to the issued sentence, 12 years of imprisonment for Elaheh Mohammadi and 13 years of imprisonment for Niloufar Hamedi have been considered, which, if confirmed, will be 6 years for Elaheh Mohammadi and 7 years for Niloufar Hamedi.
Masoud Pezeshkian, in response to the question of how fair this sentence is, said, ‘I am not in a position to judge, but what is clear is that someone who is a journalist and conveys the news correctly and boldly should be secure and not be tried and sentenced.’
Jalal Mahmoudzadeh also stated that the judiciary should make decisions based on documents and confessions of the person. Since we have not seen the case file, we cannot have an accurate opinion. We only hope that these two journalists have not been treated unjustly and we hope that the judiciary will re-examine the case of these two journalists.
