Lithuanian Foreign Minister Declares Increasing Consensus on Designating the IRGC as a Terrorist Organization

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has declared an increasing consensus among European Union countries regarding designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Gabrielius Landsbergis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, stated to the news and analysis website Axios that there is a growing consensus among EU member states to identify the IRGC as a terrorist organization due to its military support for Russia in the war in Ukraine.

The European Parliament requested in a resolution earlier this year that Iranian authorities stop violating human rights by executing protesters and suppressing dissent, and also called on EU members to increase support for protesters in Iran and include the IRGC in the list of terrorist organizations of the Union.

Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated that the European Court of Justice should make a decision before taking such a step.
