With a few days left until the second round of presidential elections in Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the existence of a plan to repatriate Syrian refugees to their country.

According to Turkish media reports, Erdogan said on Monday evening, the first of Khordad, in Ankara, that his government’s plan is underway to repatriate one million more Syrian refugees to their homeland.

He told TRT Haber network that the roadmap aims to facilitate the return of one million Syrian refugees within a two-year period and strengthen mechanisms to prevent illegal entry into Turkey.

According to Erdogan, 450,000 Syrian refugees have already returned to their country.
