Grossi warns about the possibility of a nuclear disaster in Ukraine
Rafael Grossi, the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, has called for immediate action to prevent a nuclear disaster at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, which is currently under Russian occupation and has been subjected to recent missile attacks by Russia.
Ukrainian officials say that Russia has carried out a new wave of missile attacks across Ukraine, targeting residential buildings and infrastructure in Kharkiv and Odessa. According to Ukrainian officials, these attacks have caused power outages in several areas.
Following these events, Rafael Grossi stated that the recent barrage of missiles has only severed the remaining power line that supplied the necessary electricity to cool the radioactive materials at the nuclear power plant.
The director-general of the agency mentioned that this is the sixth time since the Russian invasion that the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which is the largest of its kind in Europe, has lost power.
With the power cut off, the plant has been forced to rely on emergency generators for electricity generation.
