18 percent of China’s population contracted COVID-19 in 20 days

Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing estimates from a senior health official in the Chinese government, that nearly 37 million people in China might have contracted COVID-19 in a single day this week.

The report, citing minutes from an internal meeting of China’s National Health Commission held on Wednesday, stated that about 248 million people, nearly 18 percent of the population, were likely infected with the virus in the first 20 days of December.
