21 thousand Iranians in the queue for asylum in the European Union
According to statistics from the European Union Asylum Agency (EUAA), nearly one million asylum applications have been registered with member countries of the EU in 2022. This unprecedented number has not been seen since the migration crisis in 2016-2015. The latest report from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Commission, indicates that by the end of 2022, in addition to the 21 thousand Iranians, there are also over 14,405 asylum seekers to Germany and 1,400 in the queue for asylum in the Netherlands. The number of Iranians seeking asylum in European countries was reported to be 18,975 in July 2022, which represents an increase of approximately 12% over a period of five months.
