56 countries emphasized the continuation of nuclear and missile restrictions against Iran
In a joint statement marking the anniversary of the return of UN Security Council sanctions and restrictions against Iran, 56 countries declared that they will continue to implement their commitments related to the reinstated resolutions. These countries pledged to prevent the sale, supply, or transfer of items, materials, equipment, and technologies to Iran that could be used in nuclear activities sensitive to proliferation or in developing weapons delivery systems, including certain missile and drone technologies, within the framework of their domestic and international laws. The signatories also called for Iran’s full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and for Tehran to adhere to non-proliferation commitments, stating that they will continue their intelligence cooperation and countermeasures in this area. In 2025, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany activated the so-called snapback mechanism, which they claim led to the reinstatement of six previous Security Council resolutions. In contrast, Iran, Russia, and China have rejected the legal legitimacy of this process and the validity of the reinstated resolutions, and there remains a serious dispute over the legal status of the sanctions.
