58 people were killed in a boat capsizing in the Central African Republic.

In other tragedies in the impoverished country of Central African Republic, over 50 people were killed in a boat capsizing.

France 24 reported that the head of civil protection in the Central African Republic said at least 58 people, who were heading to a burial ceremony, lost their lives in a boat capsizing in Bangui, the capital city, which was overloaded with cargo.

So far, the bodies of 58 people have been recovered from the water, but dozens more are still missing. According to witnesses and videos on social media, the boat was carrying over 300 passengers, some standing and others sitting on wooden structures, which sank in the Ubangi River on Friday.

Rescue forces arrived at the scene 40 minutes after the tragedy.
