80% Decrease in the Number of Dairy Companies in Iran Over Two Decades

An 80% decrease in the number of dairy production companies in Iran over the past two decades.

A spokesman for the Iranian Dairy Industries Association announced an 80% decrease in the number of dairy product manufacturing companies in the country over the past two decades.

Mohammad Reza Banitaba, the spokesman for the Iranian Dairy Industries Association, told ILNA news agency on Monday, April 8, that the number of dairy companies in Iran has decreased from over a thousand companies in the 1980s to around 200 companies.

He attributed the decline in the number of dairy companies to government policies and mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture has not yet announced the guaranteed purchase price of raw milk for the year 2024.

The spokesman for the Iranian Dairy Industries Association also referred to a decrease in dairy consumption in the country, attributing it to a decrease in people’s purchasing power.

FAO statistics also indicate very low milk and dairy product consumption in Iran. For example, per capita consumption of milk and dairy products by Turkish citizens last year was 35 times higher than in Iran.
