America imposed new sanctions against Iran due to escalating nuclear tensions

The United States imposed new sanctions against Iran due to escalating tensions over its nuclear program.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a statement on Friday, June 27th, one day before the presidential elections in Iran, sanctioned several companies involved in the transportation of Iranian oil and petrochemical products along with their associated vessels.

The US Secretary of State imposed these new sanctions against Iran in response to the continued escalation of nuclear tensions.

Blinken stated that Iran has taken steps in the past month to further expand its nuclear program in ways that are not consistent with peaceful purposes. We are committed to never allowing Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and are prepared to use all elements of national power to ensure this outcome.

Iran’s representation at the United Nations in New York has not yet responded to this statement.
