Armed attack on a Khanqah in Saqqez
Iranian news agencies report the killing of three people in an armed attack on a Khanqah in Saqqez.
It has been reported that Sheikh Azad Shahabi, along with two of his followers, were killed in the attack on a Khanqah in the Tappeh Malan neighborhood of Saqqez.
According to IRIB news agency, Sheikh Azad was initially injured and transferred to Shafa Hospital in Saqqez.
Colonel Seyed Ali Safari, the police commander of Saqqez, told Tasnim that on Thursday night, an armed individual entered a location in the city of Saqqez and opened fire, resulting in the death of two individuals with known identities and one person identified as Sheikh Azad.
Mr. Safari did not provide any explanation for the possible motive of the attacker but stated that the police have obtained good leads on the matter, which will be announced soon.
An Instagram page affiliated with the Qadiriyya Sufi order stated that the funeral procession of the victims of the Thursday night attack will take place in Aychi Cemetery in Saqqez.
Qadiriyya is a Sufi mystical order within Sunni Islam, and its followers consider themselves as the followers of Abdul-Qadir Gilani.
