Australia calls for recognizing the Palestinian state

Australia has called for the recognition of the Palestinian state.

Australia has joined the countries supporting the official recognition of the Palestinian state.

According to the French news agency, Penny Wong, the Australian Foreign Minister, said that recognizing the Palestinian state could revive the Middle East peace process, which is on the brink of destruction, and weaken extremist forces in the Middle East.

Wong said in a meeting in Canberra, the capital of Australia, that recognizing a Palestinian state, which can only exist alongside a secure Israel, not only does not give Palestinians the opportunity to fulfill their aspirations but also weakens extremist forces while strengthening peace-seeking forces.

Recognizing a Palestinian state as the final stage of the peace process between the Palestinians and their Israeli neighbors has been perceived for decades.

The United States, Australia, and many Western European countries have expressed their willingness to one day recognize the Palestinian state, but not before reaching agreements on important issues such as the status of Jerusalem and the final borders of these two lands.
