The beginning of the end for Macron

The political coalition of Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has accepted an alliance with the Socialist Party of France after a severe decline in the first round of parliamentary elections, but the rest of the leftists are not interested in this alliance.

After the right-wing party’s lead became clear in the first round of these elections on Monday evening, Emmanuel Macron’s coalition tried to pressure the leftists to force them into a coalition, but there is disagreement within the left camp about forming an alliance with the unyielding France.

According to initial estimates, the presidential coalition has garnered between 20% to 22% of the vote.

The Macron party has clearly fallen behind the right-wing National Rally party with 33% to 34% of the vote and the left-wing party New People’s Front with 28% to 29% of the vote. The Macron party experienced the largest political popularity in the years 2017 to 2022, during which it obtained over 32% of the vote in the first round and won 350 seats, the majority in the National Assembly of the country. However, in 2022, it suffered a heavy defeat by losing the majority of seats in the French parliament.

Despite Emmanuel Macron being re-elected as the head of state, the current results of the National Assembly elections hint at the end of Macron’s era. Although the unexpected dissolution of the assembly by the president did not yield the desired results, it has prevented a total government defeat.

The French president, who has been accused of unilateralism and top-down power display since entering the Élysée Palace, has now taken a step towards coexistence with the right-wing for the first time. To avoid this, he must seek a way to reconcile with the left-wing.

In a written statement, the French head of state mentioned advancing to the second round of elections and called for widespread unity between the Democratic and Republican Front in the face of national unrest. He wrote that if France does not embrace the uncompromising, the far-right is on the brink of gaining power.

Gabriel Attal, the Prime Minister of France, added that our goal is clear: we must prevent the National Rally party from taking the lead in the second round of elections. Even though several hundred representatives will be present in the second round, the Prime Minister announced the withdrawal of second-ranked candidates to ensure the victory of the National Rally party representative over other candidates who, like us, defend republican values.

However, this strict position towards the French Renaissance party, which is Macron’s party, does not apply to all members of the Renaissance party.

Clement Ben, a former minister who himself lost his parliamentary seat, says we need to set aside ifs and buts to dispel ambiguities. The political reality is that right-wing extremists are on the verge of gaining power, so we should not procrastinate and must prevent this from happening.

Roland Lecoeur, an advisor minister in French industry affairs, also stated that to prevent the majority from seizing the seats, action must be taken, and colleagues who are in third place should be removed from the parliament.

In response to the opposing views, the French Minister for Combating Discrimination stated that he will never give in to France and will not invite others to vote for candidates who do not share the values of the majority, announcing the imminent removal of the National Assembly President Yael Brumpey.

Benjamin Haddad of the Renaissance Party said he will never be in agreement with France, and opposing the disastrous national project does not mean we will tolerate even the slightest hint of anti-Semitism and violence.

Francois Bayrou and Arnaud Marcey, leaders of the Center for Democrats and Independents, criticized the uncompromising stance of France and called for a specific review of candidates and their electoral districts.
