Diplomatic efforts to stop the fighting in Gaza and free Israeli hostages from Hamas continue. Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, has traveled to the Middle East for the eighth time since Hamas attacked Israel and the war started in Gaza.
On Tuesday, June 1, Blinken arrived in Cairo at the first stop of his Middle East trip. According to informed sources, the US Secretary of State is scheduled to meet and hold talks with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of Egypt.
Blinken, traveling with a 40-member delegation, will meet and hold talks with officials from Israel, Jordan, and Qatar until Thursday.
Hamas called on the US on the eve of Blinken’s trip to the Middle East to force Israel into a ceasefire.
According to Reuters, Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior Hamas official, asked Washington to pressure Israel in this regard. He added that Hamas is willing to show a positive approach to any initiative that leads to the end of the war.
