Building a mosque in Qeytariyeh Park by a member of Tehran City Council will lead to public discontent

Naser Amani, a member of Tehran City Council, says that building a mosque in Qeytarieh Park will cause dissatisfaction among citizens.

Naser Amani, a member of Tehran City Council, opposes the construction of a mosque in Qeytarieh Park, stating that it will lead to dissatisfaction among a large portion of citizens.

In a text posted by Mr. Amani on Thursday, 8th of Farvardin on social media, it is written that building a mosque in a part of Qeytarieh Park is not only about respecting Islamic rituals but will also lead to the destruction of rituals and dissatisfaction among a wide range of citizens. Until when should we humiliate ourselves?

This text, along with a video of Mr. Amani’s warning in the last public session of the City Council before the Nowruz holidays, has been published. In this warning addressed to the Mayor of Tehran, this City Council member says that building a mosque and changing the land use of parks is against the law. He also mentions that in the location of the mosque, there are several old trees that cannot be relocated.

Previously, Alireza Zakani, the Mayor of Tehran, had approved the plan to build a mosque in this park and stated that no mature tree will be cut down for the construction, only a few saplings will be relocated.

Meanwhile, some citizens have launched an online campaign to prevent the construction of this mosque.
