Crisis in the Iranian Volleyball Federation
Following tensions and conflicts prevailing in the Iranian Volleyball Federation, which is currently without a director, Nasser Mirfakhraei resigned from the executive board and technical committee.
Mr. Mirfakhraei, who was a former player of the Iranian national team in the 1940s and 1950s and holds an engineering degree from California, stated that contrary to election laws, one of the federation members started campaigning three months ago using federation resources. Protesters from the volleyball community said, ‘Out of respect for you, we have been silent. I said if my presence prevents justice, I will not stay.’
Mirfakhraei, a former member of Taj and Persepolis teams, told ISNA that with over 50 years of experience, he has always protected volleyball’s interests. He mentioned that a hostile atmosphere has taken over the federation, where they are seeking the resignation of senior figures one by one. It would have been better if I had resigned. The volleyball elders are being disrespected and will gradually be expelled from the federation.
