Iran’s basketball victory against Qatar

Iran’s national basketball team secured a victory against Qatar in the first match of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup window. Iran defeated Qatar 76-74 in a packed hall with close and thrilling competitions.

Qatar was leading with outstanding performances by Babacar Dieng and Mike Lewis in the final minute, but a three-point shot by Sajjad Mashayekhi in the last 39 seconds gave Iran the edge.

Arsalan Kazemi, Behnam Yakhchali, Sajjad Mashayekhi, Navid Rezaeifar, and Salar Monji were the key players for Iran in this match.

Yakhchali, who plays in the Bundesliga, was named the best player of the match with 20 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Iran, coached by Hakan Demir from Turkey, will face India’s national basketball team in their second important match on February 25th.
