Iraq gives black oil instead of money to Iran.
The Iraqi Minister of Electricity says that in exchange for receiving gas from Iran for use in its power plants, Iraq delivers black oil to Iran. Ali Fadel, in an interview with the official Iraqi news agency, refers to the crisis of gas shortage from Iran and Iran’s restrictions on gas exports in cold seasons. He mentioned that Iraq has agreed with Turkmenistan to import 20 million cubic meters of gas daily to solve this problem.
Iraq uses the gas received from Iran as fuel for its power plants, and about six thousand megawatts of Iraq’s electricity production capacity, equivalent to one-third of the total capacity, depends on the imported gas from Iran.
He said that if an agreement is reached with Iran, the delivery of gas from Turkmenistan can be implemented from the summer of 1403.
According to the contract, Iran is obliged to deliver 50 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq daily, but in recent years, it has only delivered half of this amount to Iraq.
Iranian authorities say that Iraq owes Iran 9 to 11 billion dollars for purchasing gas and electricity from the Islamic Republic. However, Mr. Fadel responded to these claims by stating that Iraq has no debt to Iran.
