In midwinter, the Islamic Republic tripled its gas exports to Turkey at the peak of the deficit.
New statistics from the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority show that in midwinter, the Islamic Republic had tripled its gas exports to Turkey at the peak of the deficit.
According to a report published on Friday, March 30th on the website of this institution affiliated with the Turkish Ministry of Energy, Iran delivered over 871 million cubic meters of gas to Turkey from December 21st to February 9th this year, which is 202% more than the same month last year.
It is not exactly clear why, while Iran had halted gas exports to Turkey in some months during the summer and fall, it significantly increased its exports to Turkey at the peak of winter gas consumption and its extensive deficit.
In total, Iran delivered 52 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey in the past calendar year, which is 46% less than in 2022.
In January of this year, Russia, the United States, and the Republic of Azerbaijan were the largest gas exporters to Turkey, with Iran ranking fourth with a 13% share.
