Kianoush Sanjari, a former journalist and political prisoner, has published an advertisement for the sale of all his belongings at a free price on his social media page X.

Having a history of detention, torture, and imprisonment in November 2023, he had previously announced the sale of his X page due to dismissal from work and livelihood, due to poverty and the need to buy food and medical expenses.

Buying and selling organs in Iran is a phenomenon with a background of financial problems, especially in recent years. Many paper advertisements with titles like ‘urgent need’ and accompanied by blood type declaration, phone number, and reasons for sale can be seen around hospitals and some specific entrances.

Among the reasons for selling organs mentioned in most of these advertisements are to cover rent or mortgage, buy a car, or collect heavy medical expenses for a close relative.

According to published reports, the price of selling organs in Iran can vary from 80 million in the Kidney Association of Iran to 500 million in the black market, depending on age, health, and blood type.
