Malfunction of maps and GPS in Iran
For the past few weeks, disruptions in GPS have caused maps and online navigators to malfunction. This issue is more prevalent in major cities such as Tehran and Isfahan, according to investigations.
If you are a user of internet taxis or rely on online maps for navigation in busy cities like Tehran, you have probably noticed that these navigators no longer provide accurate routes to users. Monitoring by internet taxis and local maps and navigators indicates that the GPS disruption, which intensified last week, is causing inaccuracies in navigation in Tehran.
According to Sharq’s report last week, Javad Amel, the CEO of Navinashan Navigator, stated in an interview that there is an ongoing act of spoofing GPS from an unidentified source, causing issues for navigation apps and maps.
Follow-up from the Ministry of Communications as the frequency regulator in the country indicates that they have not made any changes to the frequency paths that would interfere with GPS. The Ministry of Communications also stated in the follow-up regarding the reason for this interference that they are not responsible in this regard and that military and security entities should be accountable.
