Mohammad Ali Abtahi, the target of thieves’ attack

Following the increase in mobile phone and wallet thefts in Iran, Mohammad Ali Abtahi, former chief of staff to Mohammad Khatami, also reported an attempt by a motorcyclist to steal his mobile phone, resulting in injuries to his eyebrows and chest.

Abtahi wrote on his Instagram page that two motorcyclists with scruffy appearances and a very new and stylish motorcycle intended to snatch his mobile phone, but he resisted. He mentioned that the result of this resistance was damage to his eyebrows, leading to 10 stitches and chest bruises.

Prior to Mr. Abtahi, reports of mobile phone thefts involving several celebrities and athletes, including Ali Daei and Ahmadreza Abedzadeh, had been published on the streets.

High inflation and unemployment rates, which have led to an increase in the misery index, along with the rise in poverty line in Iran, the devaluation of the national currency, and the decrease in people’s purchasing power, indicate a more difficult life for people in various provinces of Iran.
