Negin Bagheri was released
Negin Bagheri, a journalist and women’s rights activist, was summoned to Evin Court on Monday, February 6th, where she was informed of her charges and then temporarily released on a bail of one billion.
On Monday, Negin Bagheri was charged at Evin Court with assembly and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security. Since the beginning of the recent protests, more than 90 other journalists have also been summoned and arrested.
Since the start of the nationwide Women, Life, Freedom movement, about 20,000 people have been imprisoned. However, the country’s prisons do not have the capacity to hold the vast number of prisoners whom the authorities consider criminals.
The summoning to court, the informing of charges, and the bail arrangement for Negin Bagheri in one day indicate a lack of infrastructure and a continued insistence on suppressing journalists and activists.
