Qatar will not close Hamas’ political office in Doha.
Qatar announced on Tuesday that it has no plans to shut down Hamas’ office in the country.
According to the French news agency, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, stated on Tuesday, April 4, that as long as Hamas’ political leadership presence in Doha remains beneficial for mediation efforts to end the conflict in Gaza, they will stay.
Qatar, which has hosted Hamas’ political leadership with the support of the United States since 2012, has been involved in behind-the-scenes negotiations in recent weeks regarding a possible ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
However, after the mediators, including the United States and Egypt, failed to achieve a halt to the hostilities during Ramadan, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated last week that his country is reassessing its role.
