Several of the candidates have turned the debate into a session of accusations against President Rouhani’s government in a letter from the office of the President to the head of the national broadcasting organization.
In a letter to the head of the broadcasting organization, the office of the seventh President of Iran requested the allocation of time to respond to the allegations and accusations made by some candidates during the roundtable discussions and the first presidential debate against Hassan Rouhani and his government.
The complete text of the letter is as follows: His Excellency, Dr. Peyman Jebeli, the esteemed head of the broadcasting organization.
Greetings, respectfully inform that the claims made in the first debate of the esteemed candidates of the fourteenth presidential election on the evening of 28 Khordad 1403 and some other programs by some of the candidates regarding Dr. Hassan Rouhani and his government constitute instances of spreading lies and slander against real persons and legal entities, which according to the law, the Election Campaign Commission must consider a specific timeframe for the defense of the absent party.
Hopefully, unlike its previous approach, it is expected that the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) will provide Dr. Rouhani or his representative with the opportunity to respond to the various doubts and accusations raised by some candidates in accordance with the law, turning the presidential debate of the fourteenth election into a session of accusing the eleventh and twelfth governments, effectively disregarding the explicit recommendation of the leadership to observe election ethics.
