The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic strongly recommends constructive interaction between the parliament and the new government.
Ayatollah Khamenei, in a meeting with parliament members where Masoud Pezeshkian, the nominee for the fourteenth presidential election, was also present, said, ‘My strong recommendation is for the parliament to have constructive interaction with the new government.’
The leader of Iran’s government told the members of the twelfth parliament that they should firmly believe that the victory and success of the elected president in managing the country is a victory for all of us.
During this speech, Iranian media paid special attention to the images of Masoud Pezeshkian and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who were sitting side by side in the front row as the audience of Iran’s leader.
Mr. Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Parliament, was a rival of Mr. Pezeshkian in the first round of the recent presidential election and supported Mr. Pezeshkian’s rival, Saeed Jalili, in the second round.
The twelfth parliament will soon have to give a vote of confidence to the ministers proposed by Mr. Pezeshkian.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, in continuation of his speech, said, ‘The urgent task of the parliament is to vote on the cabinet that Mr. Pezeshkian will present to the parliament. This urgent and immediate task is yours, representatives. The sooner the proposed cabinet is approved after the necessary procedures, the better for the country as the government can start working for a better nation.’
He added that selected individuals in the government must be firm believers in the Islamic Republic system and have a national perspective, and not get involved in political and factional issues.
