Two journalists were detained and summoned in Qazvin and Tehran on charges of spreading lies in the virtual space.
Hessam Abediyeha, a journalist, was detained for reporting on a major fraud in Qazvin and criticizing judicial officials, while Hassan Abbasi, another journalist, was summoned for publishing articles about poverty in Hormozgan.
On Friday, April 6th, the civil protest Telegram channel published a photo of Hessam Abediyeha, a Qazvin journalist, with handcuffs, stating that he was detained for reporting on the fraud case of Rezayat Khodro’s Taravat-e Novin company and was temporarily released after posting bail.
The critical journalist Hassan Abbasi had also recently shared a photo of his summons to the Tehran media court on charges of spreading lies through the virtual space.
He, in his social media account, mentioned that his summons was due to advocating for addressing the deprivations in Hormozgan province and stated that the main reason for deprivation in southern provinces is that some individuals in power are more focused on suppressing and increasing deprivation rather than working towards eliminating it.
