UN Response to Reports on Mass Graves in Gaza

The United Nations’ reaction to reports of mass graves in Gaza

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the destruction of the Nasser and Shifa hospitals in Gaza and the discovery of mass graves with hundreds of bodies on the premises of these medical facilities as horrifying.

The US State Department also said on Tuesday, April 13, that reports of mass graves in Gaza are concerning.

Folker Turk called for independent investigations into the deaths.

However, the Israeli army described the claims by Palestinian civil defense about Israeli soldiers burying bodies in these areas as unfounded and baseless.

The Israeli army statement added that inspections to determine identities were carried out with full care and were only conducted in areas where it was suspected, based on security information, that there might be a possibility of burying the bodies of hostages. These inspections were carried out with full respect and reverence for the deceased individuals.
