UN prevents transfer of food aid to Gaza by Israel

The United Nations states that Israel is obstructing the transfer of food aid to Gaza.

The United Nations announced on Wednesday that Israel is mainly preventing the entry of food aid caravans to Gaza among the various types of aid being sent, despite the region being on the brink of famine.

Jens Laerke, the spokesperson for the UN’s humanitarian aid agency, stated during a press briefing in Geneva that obtaining permits for delivering food supplies has been much more challenging than obtaining permits for delivering other types of aid to Gaza.

He told reporters that the obstruction of food caravans, especially those heading towards northern Gaza where 70% of the population is facing famine, has been three times greater than the obstruction of other caravans carrying humanitarian aid.

Six months have passed since Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, and Israel is currently facing increasing international pressure to allow more aid into Gaza.
