The President of Ukraine has reduced the minimum conscription age from 27 to 25.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has signed a decree reducing the minimum conscription age in the country from 27 to 25. According to this new law, individuals under 25 years old must serve in the military.
The government could potentially deploy these individuals to the frontlines against Russia after training and completing their military service. However, the Ukrainian government states that there is currently no need to send individuals under 27 years old to the war front.
The Ukrainian Parliament had approved the law to reduce the minimum conscription age last April, but Volodymyr Zelensky finally signed this bill after nearly a year of resistance, on Thursday, 15th of Farvardin.
It is not clear exactly how many individuals will be added to Ukraine’s human resources capacity in the war against Russia with the new law, but the Ukrainian Parliament intends to also reduce the legal minimum age for general mobilization to the frontlines to 25 years old.
