We have frozen 30 million euros of Georgia's assets in Europe

We have blocked 30 million euros of Georgia’s assets in Europe.

Paul Hitchens, the EU representative in Georgia, said on Tuesday, July 9, 1403, in a ceremony in Tbilisi that the 30 million euros intended for transfer to the Georgian Ministry of Defense is currently blocked, and this is just the beginning.

This decision is a direct result of the cooling of Georgia’s relations with the EU after the approval of the Foreign Agents Law in June. The United States also indefinitely postponed military exercises with the Georgian army last week.

Georgia was formally recognized as a candidate for EU membership in December, but the EU has repeatedly stated that Tbilisi’s current policies effectively halt the country’s membership application. Hitchens further added on Tuesday that he doubts the EU will begin membership negotiations with Georgia this year and stated that the process of Georgia’s accession is in a state of suspension.
