White House National Security Spokesperson: Will not allow Hamas to succeed in a major operation in Rafah

Jen Kirby, the White House National Security Spokesperson, said on Thursday that Israel’s large-scale operation in Rafah aimed at Washington and Tel Aviv’s goal of defeating the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza will not succeed.

Mr. Kirby said in a press briefing with reporters that the attack on Rafah will not achieve this goal.

Despite these warnings from the United States, a senior Israeli official said on Friday, May 10th, according to Reuters, that Israel will continue with its operation in Rafah.

The unnamed senior official explained that Israel has sent mediators to convey our concerns about Hamas’ proposal for a hostage release agreement and believes that this round of talks in Cairo has ended.

The official added that the Israeli delegation is currently returning from the Egyptian capital and Israel will continue its operations in Rafah and other parts of the Gaza Strip according to its plan.
