A group of writers in Iran’s Kurdistan province, in a statement, condemned the violence against protesters and called for the collective resignation of members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
The statement mentions that the recent events throughout Iran, especially in the past few days in Kurdistan, have tormented the souls and minds of every human being and compelled them to protest.
The people, who are the true owners of the land, have been driven to desperation by extreme poverty, rampant corruption, injustice, and the blatant oppression of the rulers. They express their dissatisfaction in the most human way, empty-handed, while the government, which should serve and protect them, responds with bullets and guns, killing indiscriminately without regard for age, be it the elderly, the young, or even children.
The statement concludes that the members of the Assembly, in solidarity with the mourning people, should abandon their ceremonial positions and collectively resign.
On November 6, a group of Assembly members wrote a letter to the head of the judiciary demanding the swift execution of protesters convicted of ‘waging war against God.’
