A group of writers in Iran’s Kurdistan province, in a statement condemning the violence against protesters, have called for the collective resignation of the members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
The statement mentions that the recent events throughout Iran, especially in the past few days in Kurdistan, torment the soul and mind of every human being and compel them to protest.
The people, who are the rightful owners of the land, have been driven to desperation by extreme poverty, widespread corruption, injustice, and the blatant oppression by the rulers. They express their dissatisfaction in the most humane way, yet the government, which should serve and be the custodian of the people, responds with bullets and guns, killing without distinction between the old and the young, even teenagers and children.
The statement concludes that the members of the Assembly, in solidarity with the mourning people, should abandon their symbolic positions and collectively resign.
On November 6, a group of Assembly members wrote a letter to the head of the judiciary, demanding the swift execution of protesters convicted of ‘moharebeh’ (waging war against God).
