Abbas Lotfi, the first international chess player of Iran, passed away at the age of 99.
Abbas Lotfi, a former member of Iran’s national chess team, passed away on Thursday, November 12th, at the age of 99.
Hamshahri referred to him as the first international chess player of Iran.
Abbas Lotfi was a member of the first Iranian national chess team sent to the 1956 Olympiad and was the highest-scoring player for Iran in that event.
He made significant efforts in teaching, authoring, and translating chess instructional books. The book ‘The Theory of Chess Openings’ is among his works.
