Abduction of Two New Zealanders in Iran by Security Forces

Kylie Moore-Gilbert, an Australian academic who was herself imprisoned in Iran, confirmed on her Twitter account the disappearance of two New Zealand citizens, Taufar and Bridget Rewi, in Iran and said it seems these two have been detained in Iran.

She emphasized that the policy of silence regarding foreign prisoners in Iran does not work, writing that New Zealand media are aware of the matter, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pressures them and the family not to publish their narrative.

According to Moore-Gilbert, Taufar and Bridget entered Iran from the Turkish border in July of this year, and since then there has been no information about them. She compares the situation of this couple to that of Australian tourists Jolie King and Mark Firkin and Frenchman Benjamin Brière, all of whom were detained in Iran while traveling in Asia.

Kylie Moore-Gilbert concluded by requesting New Zealand media to publish the narratives they have, as the diplomacy of silence in such situations never benefits the detainees.
