With the confirmation of the news of Ebrahim Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash and after the approval of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Mohaber Dezfuli, the First Deputy of Ebrahim Raisi, will take on the responsibilities of the presidency until the elections are held.
He will hold this position for two months, and according to the Iranian Constitution, presidential elections will be held within the next 50 days.
According to Article 131 of the Iranian Constitution, in case of the President’s death, his First Deputy assumes his authorities and responsibilities with the Leader’s approval, and a council consisting of the Speaker of the Parliament, the Head of the Judiciary, and the First Deputy of the President is obliged to arrange for the election of a new President within a maximum of fifty days.
