A German national suspected of spying for Iran has been arrested in Germany.
The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced that a Danish citizen of Afghan descent, suspected of spying for the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been officially detained by order of the Federal High Court in the city of Karlsruhe and will remain in custody until trial.
This 53-year-old man, identified only as Ali S., was arrested about three weeks ago in the city of Aarhus, Denmark, at the request of German authorities and extradited to Germany.
According to the German prosecutor’s office, he had identified and photographed three buildings associated with the Jewish community in Berlin last June, and it is suspected that these actions were part of intelligence activities and possibly for planning attacks against Jewish targets.
German authorities have announced that this individual was tasked by the intelligence services of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the beginning of 2025.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Berlin has rejected these accusations, calling them baseless and dangerous, and stated that such claims are an attempt to divert public attention from Israel’s attacks against Iran.
