Ahmad al-Shara has stated that forces affiliated with Iran and Lebanese militias have left Syria.
Ahmad al-Shara, the President of Syria, who has traveled to Washington for a historic visit, emphasized in an interview with the Washington Post that forces affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran and Lebanese militias have left Syria.
In response to a question about Israeli attacks on Syrian soil and incursions into areas of the Golan Heights, and the Syrian government’s plan to preserve the country’s territorial integrity, al-Shara said Syria went to war with Israel 50 years ago, and a ceasefire agreement was reached in 1974, which remained in place for about 50 years.
However, with the fall of the Assad regime, Israel annulled this agreement, expanded their presence in Syria, withdrew UN peacekeeping forces, and occupied some areas.
Since December 8 of last year, they have conducted over a thousand airstrikes in Syria, including bombings of the presidential palace and the Ministry of Defense building.
